April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball athletes to win medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix Klineman has become a brand new Olympian and is set to join the team in Tokyo. Ross hopes to win her Olympic the first medal of gold but she is also aiming for even more. It could be the last opportunity she gets as she is 39 years old. The athlete is optimistic she'll be successful in achieving top honours. If we do our top or do well, I believe we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. That's why I'm taking a little bit of luck as well. Ross was a Californian born in the city of Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and younger sister. In Newport Harbor High School, she was a participant in many sports. As a pre-schooler she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball and running track. She clearly was the top in the game of indoor volleyball. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker, outside hitter and setter on the volleyball court per her college bio. For her efforts she was awarded in 1999 as the Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. Her volleyball skills also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in the year 2000. Ross and Klineman might have begun working together at the beginning of 2017, but Ross was already an established player at the beach before they joined forces. In actual Ross has been a winner of several major tournaments in her career along with her two teammates. One of them is a legend. From 2007 to 2013 she teamed together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the international arena, taking home the 2009 World Championship as a team. The duo would go through to take home a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor won gold, beating them to it. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. They were able to win the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college after graduating from high school. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was impressive. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. The Trojans made it to the Final Four. She endured a great personal defeat in her sophomore year but was still capable of achieving the All-American award. In her last two seasons in the Trojans in the program the team was led to success by winning two successive national titles. She was a fantastic volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross majored in international relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the privilege of watching her daughter grow into the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was still in the midst of being a USC sophomore. The cancer was diagnosed as breast. But she still keeps her mother in her heart. And Margie remains a source of motivation for her at the beach and in her daily life.
